In Addition To Ongoing Russia Ties, Trump Surrogates, Cabinet Members And Chief Advisers Cannot Stay Away From Russia’s Top Spy In Washington
It is well known in the US Intelligence Community according to multiple sources that Russian Ambassador to Washington DC, Sergey Kislyak, is one of Russia’s top spies and spy recruiters in Washington DC. Why is this important? First, is the overwhelming consensus in the Intelligence Community and among GOP law makers that Russia hacked our election to influence the results in favor of Trump. Next, this is the very person Michael Flynn had spoken to about sanctions that led to his resignation. This is also the same person who met with at the time campaign surrogate to Donald Trump, the Senator Jeff Sessions, a fact he blatantly lied about to Senator Al Franken during his confirmation hearings.
It has now been reported that son in law and senior adviser to then President Elect Trump, Jared Kushner, along with Michael Flynn met with Sergey Kislyak at Trump Tower in December, 2016. Despite having recused himself of any Russia-Trump campaign connections, there are many calls on the Hill for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions to follow suit with Michael Flynn.
In the context of law enforcement, administration officials, and intelligence officials reporting that high level Trump campaign advisers were in constant communication with Russians known to US Intelligence during the campaign, Trump’s refusal to even acknowledge the Russian US election interference that everyone else has; and being remiss to state anything remotely negative about Vladamir Putin and Russia; it is becoming increasingly apparent in this case that where there is smoke there is fire.
In typical Trump fashion, Trump has taken to Twitter once again to dismiss these claims, as well as maintain his own narrative that the real story is the leaks within his administration. Stated Trump on Twitter, “…This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win…..The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality. The real story……is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total “witch hunt!”
As much as he may try to cry foul about fake news or trying to convince Americans where the real story lies in this scandal, whether he wants to face it or not, Trump’s Russia problem is an issue he simply cannot escape from, nor should he be allowed to. The fact that a global adversary nation had the audacity to influence our free elections and that the campaign of a major party may have been complicit in enabling them, should chill every American citizen.
